The England worldwide was stretchered off the pitch in the second half of Spurs’ 1-0 victory over Sunderland at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

“There are different rumours – we can not guess whether it’s eight, 10, four, one [weeks]”.

Kane’s absence also hands an opportunity to summer signing Vincent Janssen, the Dutch striker brought in from AZ Alkmaar in a deal worth £18.5million in July.

“We used to say that we have a competitive team and I think we are very confident in every player”, the Frenchman said.

Son Heung-min proved to be one of Tottenham’s most instrumental players throughout the 90 minutes and the South Korean was unlucky not to top his performance with a goal when his shot from outside the box just clipped the post. “We need to wait until tomorrow for the scan”, manager Mauricio Pochettino told a news conference after his side moved up to third in the standings on 11 points.

Included in that run of matches is the first north London derby of the season, when Arsenal host their bitter rivals on November 6, as well as three Champions League group stage games. Football is a collective sport.

“He’s only at the start of his journey and he is going to get a lot of work, as you can see, but the work he had, he did really well”.

“But credit to the players, that’s where we are at the moment”.

“Sometimes it’s hard. In the end it was fair”, he said.

The 23-year-old was stretchered off the field and initial assessment suggested he had not fractured his ankle but he will be reportedly out of action for between six and eight weeks due to ligament damage.

Spurs also appeared to suffer injuries to midfielders Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele who were both substituted.
