Report cites national security risks from climate change

Obama states that it is the policy of the US government to ensure that current and anticipated impacts of climate change be “identified and considered” in developing national security doctrine, policies and plans.

First, the memorandum directs 20 agencies from across the federal government to establish a dedicated working group to identify the us national security priorities related to climate change. “They’re anticipated to grow”, she said, making the case for cooperation across 20 federal agencies to prioritize and address national security concerns related to climate change.

Obama signed a Presidential Memorandum establishing the new policy Thursday.

John Holdren, the president’s top science and technology adviser, said changing weather patterns and other climate impacts – including drought, more-intense storms and rising sea levels – are already exacerbating regional conflicts and “straining the capacity of the United States and allied armed forces to deliver humanitarian and disaster relief”.

He and Jon Riedel, a National Park Service geologist at North Cascades National Park, will present “From Glaciers to the Estuary: Climate Change Impacts on Water in Northwestern Washington” during this month’s Seventh Generation Supper by Transition Fidalgo & Friends.

The working group has been given 90 days to develop an action plan, which must include “specific objectives, milestones, timelines, and identification of agencies responsible for completion of all actions described therein”.

It also said climate change is already causing national security problems around the globe and will worsen.

Obama’s decision to move global warming into the “war room” comes almost a week after national security insiders and environmentalists urged the president to create a type of secretary of climate change.

I will simply point out that mustard gas can change the climate around our troops dramatically.

Fuller said the Transition presentations will alternate between the science of why climate change is happening to what can be done to lessen the impacts.

Let’s hope there is a change in the political climate soon, before the good men and women who serve this nation are harmed by Obama’s misguided priorities.
