A core Assassin’s Creed game not guaranteed for 2017
Obviously, your idea of a revolutionary leap forward for the Assassin’s Creed franchise might differ from Ubisoft‘s.

It was previously expected that we would see a new sequel to last year’sAssassin’s Creed Syndicate at some point in 2017, allowing Ubisoft to give their flagship property a little time off in order for a formula refresh, but that may not be the case, according to Ubi CEO Yves Guillemot.
“With this team, we are owning creative control from initial concept to print, selecting the writers we work with, editing, artwork, the look and feel of the jacket”, explained Ubisoft president, Laurent Detoc. It’s written by Star Wars, Star Trek and Warcraft novelist Christie Golden, who has already penned two previous Assassin’s Creed books.
It’s impossible to tell whether the next game will be a main, numbered entry into the franchise or simply another Assassin’s Creed title.
When asked if that means we’ll see a 2017 release, Guillemot said “It will be back when it’s ready. There’s a huge potential in this game to revolutionise the IP, so we said, ‘Let’s make sure we change our model so we have more time and that we can bring back a greater experience'”.
Guillemot said he wants to really shake up the franchise with the next release.
Assassin’s Creed: The Essential Guide, a book containing information on the settings and characters of the series, will also be available on the same day.
When Ubisoft confirmed reports that the hit adventuring series was set to take a break back in February, the gaming giant said in a statement: “We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground”.
Over 80 million copies of Assassin’s Creed games have been sold to date. The game will release when it’s ready, but that could still very easily be next year.
