Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez ejected against Cubs

The right-hander had little trouble July 19, when he allowed three hits and struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings of a 4-1 victory at Atlanta.

Jake Arrieta posted his 12th straight quality start, and he has allowed only 12 earned runs in that span.

“I want him to be well for that moment”, Maddon said. The 25-year-old gave up five runs and eight hits in 3 1/3 innings against the Chicago White Sox but escaped with a no-decision when the Cubs rallied to win.

Coghlan had a 2-0 count when plate umpire Doug Eddings raised his hand twice toward the Atlanta dugout.

Rizzo’s 24th home run of the season was on the first pitch delivered from Sterling and Minooka, Illinois-native, Mike Foltynewicz.

The Cubs grabbed a 4-0 lead in the third in a span of two pitches after Gonzalez got tossed.

The Braves (53-68) saw manager Fredi Gonzalez get sent to the showers in the third. “It wasn’t anything insane, but you can’t argue balls and strikes so I got to watch the rest of the game on TV”.

Left fielder Kyle Schwarber drew a walk to open the bottom of the fifth, and Coghlan brought him home with a triple into the right field corner for a 6-0 Cubs lead.

Russell singled and scored in the third and added a solo homer in the fourth to make it 5-0. Fowler also extended his hitting streak to six games with a first-inning single. Braves OF Cameron Maybin’s batting average with runners in scoring position (.376) is sixth in the majors….
