Samsung Gear VR gets Xbox One controller support

You’re first step to playing Minecraft: Gear VR Edition with your Xbox Wireless Controller is to get the latest update for your controller.

Mobile devices are ideal for virtual reality (VR) because majority already include the needed sensors and a small, high-resolution display.

Starting with support for Minecraft: Gear VR Edition, Microsoft is working to roll out compatibility with all current controller-based VR games and ones that are coming to the platform later on.

The move is another part of the expansion of Microsoft’s Xbox Wireless gaming system that spans across the console and Windows 10 PCs and will now see the controller start to work with games on Gear VR that can support a controller. The headset is low-cost due to the fact that it relies primarily on a Galaxy Smartphone to provide a virtual reality experience, but it does pack a few of its own additional sensors to make head tracking more accurate than VR viewers that only hold smartphones, like Google Cardboard. A wireless controller is essential for many VR games, since you can’t connect a wired controller to mobile devices.

The popular sandbox game created by Mojang (now owned by Microsoft) is a major fan favorite.

Minecraft isn’t the only game that will be supported by the Xbox Wireless Controller. First, be sure that you have the third-generation controller with Bluetooth. This means that they’ll be able to hook up their headset and dive into the world of Minecraft: Gear VR Edition wirelessly. There will be an update for Minecraft: Gear VR Edition in October to supported Android devices.

Gear VR doesn’t come with a controller, and that’s an issue.
