Week 2 Grades for Buccaneers Loss to the Cardinals

Safety Tony Jefferson was one of the few Cardinals defenders to play well in the opener, and that carried over against Tampa Bay. Jameis Winston completed 23 of 33 passes for 281 yards and four touchdowns against one interception to lead the Bucs. After that, everything else was details.

“Everything’s gonna start and end with the turnovers”, said Koetter. There are so many topics to discuss regarding this game but we will keep it brief on a Monday Morning.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will travel west as they face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2 of the NFL. “So really everything that happened last night stems off of those turnovers”.

“I saw Julio Jones walking around, Julius Peppers, all those guys like that”, he said.

Pretty much every phase in special teams was better.

“It was a combination of both”, Koetter said. Evans, Jackson and Seferian-Jenkins represent a trio of tall (each stands 6-5) targets that could pose a matchup nightmare for an undersized and undermanned Arizona secondary. Nobody on offense got one. He used his body to bump Mike off. He was sacked at the end of the regular season, but was allowed to coach the Sun Devils in the Hawaii Bowl, where they lost to Hawaii to finish his final season there at 7-6.

“I know that the issues we had are correctable, which makes me feel better, knowing, okay, this guy can’t match or we can’t cover or we can’t play this because of that – that issue is not the case”, Quinn said.

Four players left the game with injuries, headlined by running back, Doug Martin (hamstring), and defensive end, Robert Ayers Jr. “The precision between those two players just isn’t where it needs to be right now, and that’s something we’re going to have to get straightened out real soon”. They did a good job. They also did a far superior job of tackling and pressuring on defense. We’ve got to stay with the process. “When they’re pressuring you, you’ve got to make them pay, and we didn’t do that”.

“The positive thing was, we gave up big plays and. our defense is built to take away explosive plays”, Allen said.

Quinn did see several positives against the Buccaneers that he thinks the defense can build on going forward. The Bucs are a young, improving team, but I don’t see the Cardinals losing to them in Glendale. The Rams lost 28-0 in their opener to the 49ers, come back (and get a) huge win against Seattle yesterday. “That’s something that we’re going to need to get straightened out real soon”.

The four turnovers led to 17 Arizona points.

It wasn’t all bad, though (just mostly). That’s the main thing. If you’re fine with on demand NFL replay games, you may sign up for $99/year for an entire season, and $199.99/year for NFL Game LIVE all season – including Playoffs and Super Bowl LI access.

The Cardinals defense also contributed in the pummeling of the Buccaneers. The only critique being that the linebackers were overaggressive at times, allowing Tevin Coleman and Muhammed Sanu to exploit their zone-coverage for big plays.

Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson returns an interception as intended target Mike Evans looks to make the tackle. Arizona forced five turnovers the Bucs forced none
