The suspect first opened fire at a police officer in a vehicle before shooting into a bar and then at a civilian auto, as Police Commissioner Richard Ross told reporters Saturday afternoon.

Ed Miller, a former Philadelphia police officer now working for the University of Pennsylvania police force, was hit in the leg as he joined officers in cornering the suspect. Moments before, police say, suspect Nicholas Glenn had fired about 18 shots at veteran police Sgt. Sylvia Young as she sat in her patrol cruiser on a West Philadelphia street corner. Later, he grabbed a woman and used her as a human shield. Moments later, the suspect ran by a white auto, firing into it and killing one woman and critically injuring another man.

“We’ve got shots fired at us!” one officer can be heard yelling into his police radio during the chase. Terrence Crutcher, 40, died at the hospital where he was taken after he was shot by the officer at around 8 p.m. Friday, police said.
Hartnett returned fire, wounding the gunman.
The 42-year-old manager and 41-year-old bartender at Maximum Level Lounge were attending to a wheelchair-bound patron and standing in the open doorway when Glenn fired about five rounds into the doorway, striking the manager in both legs and the woman in the right ankle. Police spokeswoman Jeanne MacKenzie said she believes the officers’ dash cameras might have captured video of the shooting. A man who was also inside the auto was also shot at, with the man now in critical condition.
Sgt. Young is in good spirits, given what she has been through, report police. However, authorities did mention that Nicholas’ letter spoke of people being “doomed”.
The 19-year-old suspect later was found hiding behind a building and was taken into custody.
“My thoughts and prayers go out to the @PhillyPolice & @Penn police officers – in Philadelphia”.
Young was shot in her shoulder, arm and chest and remains hospitalized in stable condition.
“Six months isn’t enough data to know if this is the beginning of something bad or an anomaly”, says David Harris, a law professor at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.
Still, an official police Twitter account said early Saturday that the most recent shooting was the work of “an individual driven by hatred”. There was no immediate word on the officers’ conditions.
