Army guns down 10 terrorists in Uri

Pakistan must stop giving a safe haven to terorrists, US Secretary of State John Kerry has told Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, while expressing “strong concern” over the attack on the Indian army base in Uri.

“Pakistan fully supports the demand of the Kashmiri people”.

“In the very first invitation that was extended to the SAARC leaders, it was made clear that India was always ready for a dialogue with anyone but not if there was any use of terrorism”.

“You will see multiple serious action against Pakistan, the results will hurt their economy”, the Indian interior ministry official said.

He did not merely “condemn this tragic attack” like most others in Washington. A threat to democracy in India is a threat to democracy everywhere.

Stating that Pakistan wants peace with India, Sharif said that his country has gone the extra mile seeking talks but that India has “imposed preconditions”.

Kerry and Sharif appeared to be on the same page on the violence in Kashmir.

In a reference to JeM chief Masood Azhar and Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, she said terrorist entities and their leaders, including many designated by the United Nations, continue to roam the streets of Pakistan freely and operate with State’s support.

A string of statements from Capitol Hill, some by USA lawmakers who sought Modi’s autograph in June, will make Kerry and Obama aware that India has robust support in the Congress and that it must be taken note of by the administration. “Shows continued Pak attachment to terrorism”.

His reference was to Sunday’s terror attack at an army base camp in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 18 Indian soldiers were killed and four attackers gunned down.

“The prime minister might strike a balance in his speech”.

The disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan by a heavily militarized and mountainous frontier called the Line of Control.

“The UN Security Council has called for the exercise of the right to self-determination by the people of Jammu and Kashmir through a free and fair plebiscite held under UN auspices”, Sharif said during the general debate of the 71st session of General Assembly of the United Nations in NY.
