IPhone 7 Users Complain About Hissing Sounds, Home Button

The new iPhone 7 was unleashed upon the world just days ago, but already there’s something weird going on with them, apparently. For scale, a recent benchmarking test saw the 7 Plus process JavaScript eight times faster than Samsung’s Galaxy S7.

Having said that, some users are experiencing a “hissing” sound when their iPhone 7 is put under a heavy load.

Apple is saying nothing about the problem but it has offered replacements for those who have complained.

Though the company is yet to clarify its stance, if the number of complaints rise, the sales might get delayed in a few markets including India.

The good news is the occurrence does not affect all iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Some are saying this could be on the processor’s problem while some suggest maybe the hissing sound is kind of a cooling system for the device.

However, the general consensus is that the hiss is somehow related to Apple’s new A10 Fusion processor, due to the fact that it can only be heard when the device is under heavy load.

The noise was first noticed by Stephen Hackett of 512 Pixels fame, and was corroborated by a lot of other users, including some major tech industry types. He also provided a clip exposing the disturbing sound of his device alongside his tweet.

Whatever the reason, Apple hasn’t publicly commented.

Another possibility is that the hissing comes from the new Intel LTE chipsets which are found inside the new Apple flagships, but then again, who knows? Because the iPhone 7 home button is now a capacitive touch button that requires the phone to be functioning properly in order to use, it can no longer serve as a manual override during a hard reboot. Instead of a mechanical button that depresses when you push it, the iPhone 7’s solid state (non-mechanical) Home button doesn’t move and instead operates using software, providing haptic feedback to mimic the feel of a button push.
