Tesla CEO Elon Musk acknowledged that the Autopilot improvements might have prevented a crash that killed an OH man in May, when his Model S slammed into a truck.

In addition to changes to Autopilot, Musk is also touting a new feature that will keep the vehicle at a constant maximum or minimum temperature.
Tesla describes its newest features through a new Software section on its company website which we’ve highlighted below. Even the tests conducted by Tesla showed that that its P85D variant of Model S could accelerate from 0-100 kilometers within 3.1-3.3 seconds, proving that the car’s performance has been accurate. Tesla claims that the new update is expected to make the Autopilot feature safer and more reliable. The new version 8.0 of the company’s suite of electronic driving aids promises to make driving a Model S or a Model X safer than it has ever been, even if the vehicle isn’t moving.

The company already detailed a list of significant improvements, most importantly an enhanced radar-processing algorithm that creates a coarse point cloud similar to lidar’s “vision” of surroundings.
Another important improvement is the temperature control focused on safety of children and/or pets left in the auto. Initiation is quick, and clear visual feedback lets you focus on the road without compromising convenience or control.
The carmaker says Cabin Overheat Protection can operate “for hours” thanks to Tesla’s large battery packs.
With software update 8.0, Autopilot now relies heavily on the on-board radar that was previously used as a supplementary sensor to the primary camera and image processing system, which was installed as part of a hardware upgrade in 2014.

Musk said on Twitter that the roll out will be gradual, as Tesla has to account for many auto configurations, but if you own a Tesla, you should receive the update at some point in the coming days.
