Vikings’ Peterson reportedly will have knee surgery, be out indefinitely

Had Peterson had surgery to trim out the torn meniscus, he might have been able to return in weeks.

– Adrian Peterson will have surgery on Thursday to fix the torn meniscus in his right knee, ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported Wednesday. “He’s a good athlete and he’s going to compete and fight”, a testy Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said when discussing Clemmings on Wednesday.

Without Bridgewater in Week 1, Minnesota rode its defense, which scored two touchdowns, to a win in Tennessee despite zero touchdowns from the offense.

Zimmer added that left tackle Matt Kalil had been placed on injured reserve with a hip injury. “You’re looking at another six weeks of controlled rehab before you allow someone to really go full out to get into football shape, so that’s why they’re saying three to four months or perhaps the entire season”.

“It could be season ending”, Zimmer said. There are some things we took advantage of with him in the game. I really like Jerick McKinnon as the next feature back for the Vikings, if we’re being completely honest with each other. “I’m sure they’ll let us know after the surgery”. They’re competitive, ” Zimmer said.

Peterson had been provided with multiple options about how to treat the injury, and he had been waiting to hear back from Dr. James Andrews, who performed extensive surgery on Peterson’s knee in 2011, before making his decision.

Titans Coach Mike Mularkey said Wednesday that Warmack would undergo surgery to fix a torn tendon on his right hand and would be placed on injured reserve. McCarthy, though, called that perhaps overly optimistic, saying a fix likely would sideline Peterson for six or more months.

The Vikings’ offense already is without quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who was lost for the season with a knee injury at the end of the preseason.

The hitch here is that Adrian Peterson will not be getting that money and the injury only worsens the situation. The Vikings are not going to keep him on the roster at the price his current contract demands, they just aren’t.

“We’re not the type of team that’s going to sit back and cry about what’s happened, ” he said.

He’s not sure how much he’ll play in Sunday’s game against the Panthers, the team Hillman’s Broncos beat in Super Bowl 50. He led the league in rushing a year ago and won the league MVP award in 2012 with 2,097 yards on the ground. Even if Sam Bradford’s play slumps from the incredible high of his first game in purple, the quarterback just needs to be adequate and not kill his team with turnovers. If anything, he’d only be back in time for a playoff run-and just how effective would he be in that case?
