Protester Shot Wednesday In Charlotte Protests Has Died

Todd Walther, spokesman for the Charlotte Fraternal Order of Police, told CNN that he viewed the footage, and it demonstrated Scott was “an obvious threat” to police officers.

The family was not present, he says, because they were still grieving.

Relatives of Scott – who was married with seven children – have said not only that he was not armed, but also that he was disabled. But police showed the video to Scott’s attorneys and family members on Thursday. “We want the tapes!”.

The city also said the man, whose name had not been released, was injured during a “civilian on civilian” shooting. At first Putney said the man had died Wednesday night, and then that announcement was reversed, and then remade on Thursday.

“It is not a very clear picture and the gun in question is a small gun”.

Updated 7:58 p.m. She told NPR News that the question of releasing the video of the shooting largely depended on how the investigation progressed.

Tulsa County prosecutors on Thursday charged the officer who shot Crutcher with first-degree manslaughter and issued a warrant for her arrest.

The video won’t be immediately released to the public. Scott was shot in an apartment complex lot after an encounter with police officers who were looking for a wanted suspect. Neighbors, though, have said he was holding only a book.

“When he was shot and killed, Mr. Scott’s hands were by his side and he was slowly walking backward”, the family attorney said.

So while the video does not appear to show Keith Lamont Scott pointing the gun at anyone it does show him holding it.

“That is what the chief says”. None of you all have seen any evidence that a gun was there. Bamberg says: “There are some things to digest”. “My understanding is that he did not own a gun, he did not habitually carry a gun”, Bamberg said.

The lawyer said he wasn’t sure if the family would speak to the press after viewing the videos. “But they do support citizens in their right to voice their frustration, to voice their anger”, he said.

Charlotte’s resistance to calls to release the video is not without precedent.

Police said they did recover a gun.

Charlotte police confirmed Thursday night that Justin Carr, 26, died at the hospital after being shot in the head Wednesday night.

He did not give other details about what the wife saw. They’re still seeking witnesses.

A peaceful rally in response to the shooting turned violent on Wednesday as protesters threw rocks and bottles at the police in riot gear, smashed windows and doors and looted stores in downtown Charlotte.

Charlotte Police Chief Kerr Putney said earlier Thursday he won’t release the body and dashboard camera video while the criminal investigation into Tuesday’s shooting continues. We don’t need no negative spin on what they are doing.

One protester was shot and gravely wounded by a civilian, and four police officers suffered non-life threatening injuries, city officials said on Twitter. He says police will have a greater presence, tonight. National Guard troops fortified a robust police presence throughout the center of town, helping to quell the crowd. Still, Putney told the news conference that he’ll only show the footage to the victim’s family, not the public. “I didn’t see that in the videos I saw”.

The family claims the footage proves Scott had not been behaving in an aggressive manner and was obeying police commands.
