Vikings will lean on defense, Bradford without Peterson
Adrian Peterson has been placed on injured reserve by the Minnesota Vikings, one day after his surgery to fix a torn meniscus in his right knee.

It certainly didn’t come as a surprise Friday afternoon, but the Minnesota Vikings announced they had moved Adrian Peterson to injured reserve. Peterson hurt his knee against the Green Bay Packers, forcing him to have surgery on a torn meniscus. Whether the 31-year-old returns to the Minnesota roster ever again is unclear.

While the Vikings could, potentially, bring Peterson back later in the season, he would have to miss a minimum of six weeks before he could be brought back. The Vikings retain that ability, even though he’s on IR. Peterson did recover very quickly when he tore his ACL a few years ago, coming back to have one of the best seasons of his career the very next year. They can still only bring back one player, though, which means that if both Peterson and offensive tackle Matt Kalil somehow find themselves in a position to return to the field, the team can only bring one of them back. Next season he is due $11.75 million plus a $6 million roster bonus due in March. With healing like that, there is definitely a chance he could get back by the end of the season.
