Patriots rookie Jacoby Brissett in the spotlight

I’d say that’s pretty much the same story for everybody no matter who the player is or what positon they are.

The Texans come into town on Thursday night with a 2-0 record and look to have the makings of a playoff team.

Reports have been flowing that New England’s brass is putting pressure on Garoppolo to buck up and play through the pain, but he is having trouble lifting his right arm, which puts him in the “long shot” category at best. “I’m not a doctor”, Belichick said on Tuesday. “It’s just a continuous process of getting myself back and even better”, he said. The Texans had less than three full days to prepare before flying to New England today, so their limited time on the field has included some type of cram session for the Patriots’ unknown elements at quarterback.

He was even more coy than usual in this short week as New England prepared to host the Texans (2-0) Thursday night in the aftermath of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo injuring his throwing shoulder in last week’s win over Miami.

Osweiler offered some advice for Garoppolo with what it’s like to play behind such a great quarterback and also what it takes to be successful.

The only difference now is the Pats are one step closer to such an emergency if rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett goes down tomorrow against the Texans at Gillette Stadium.

Coach Bill Belichick was peppered with questions about Garoppolo’s health and not adding a quarterback to the roster in his only press conference of the week, but the coach maintained his usual evasive style in his responses.

“It’s the same preparation every week”, Brissett said after Tuesday’s practice. “So I’m just taking this week like every other week”. “That’s all you can ask for, but we’ve got a very tough Texans team coming up”. “He’s a hard-working kid. I don’t think that’s really what we’re trying to do”. He’s in here early, stays late, studies the game mentally, he’s got a good physical talent. “He’s played the position and, God forbid anything happened to Jacoby, if he’s the only guy out there at quarterback, if that’s the case, then I’d expect Julian to go in there and the coaches to be comfortable with the plays that they’re calling for him”. “He has improved steadily since he has been here since back in the draft, in May, all the way through”.
