According to the report, police stopped Perkins near 18th and San Antonio streets at 2:52 a.m. He grabbed the keys out of the ignition and called Austin police. No attorney was listed to speak for Perkins. He was taken into custody without incident.

When he did finally regain consciousness and exited his vehicle, the officer detected an odor of alcohol on his breath.

Perkins was booked into the Travis County jail and later posted $4,000 bond.

“We are aware of the situation involving Kent Perkins and gathering facts at this time”.

“We’re disappointed in his actions and take a strong stance against drinking and driving”, Strong said.

Strong said any punishment for Perkins will be decided once school officials have more information.

On the field, Perkins, a senior from Lake Highlands, has been a key member of Texas’ offensive line, bringing experience to a largely inexperienced group.

Strong, in his third season, has made his five core values a key part of the program.
