Several injured after school bus flips in Texas

A school bus overturned in southeast Texas, on Friday, injuring more than a dozen students and the driver, the local sheriff and school district said. The injuries are non-life threatening.

KPRC reports that 11 people were transported to a local hospital, including the bus driver.

“We understand it was bumps and bruises, but we wanted to get them to a hospital to make sure they’re OK”, Harris County Sheriff Deputy Ralph Gonzales told local KHOU-TV. Officials tell Eyewitness News that it appears the bus swerved off the road to avoid a stalled vehicle in the road.

KPRC reports that s Crosby ISD representative said that students were never trapped aboard the bus. The Crosby Independent School District reported 14 students were injured. There were 14 injuries reported in what the Crosby Independent School District called “a serious accident”.

First responders are at the scene of a bus rollover accident in Crosby.

According to its website, the Crosby Independent School District serves a kindergarten, four elementary schools, a middle school and high school. The bus driver was also hurt. Martin says the students were “pretty frantic”. It’s pretty scary getting in a school bus, not having seat belts, you know the bus turned over on its side, windows breaking. “You know it’s in a ditch that is filled with water”.

“I (saw) the bus”, said the witness.

“The driver was very shaken up”, Moore said. “It was flipped. Kids were in and out of the bus. There were kids on the ground, bleeding, crying, screaming”.
