ITV confirms Jenna Coleman-starring Victoria will return for second series
First airing at the end of August, Victoria “has been a huge ratings success, with the series averaging 7.7 million viewers and 29.7% share of viewing, based on consolidated overnights”, – making it the top rated ITV drama of the year so far. “God Save the Queen!” Turns out that in the United Kingdom it’s been going rather like gangbusters, averaging 7.7 million viewers an episode since its August debut.

The news of a second series for the drama comes after it was recently teased that there would be some “steamy scenes” coming up over the next few weeks as the relationship between Victoria [Jenna] and Albert [Tom] starts to heat up following their wedding last weekend.
“We’re pleased to be able to confirm that Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes will return to continue the story on ITV”, Kevin Lygo, ITV’s director of television, said in a statement Friday. The move comes ahead of the show’s USA premiere January 15 on Masterpiece on PBS.
The recommission will reunite stars Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes with screenwriter Daisy Goodwin and producers Mammoth Screen for a likely broadcast next autumn.
The show has become ITV’s top-rated drama of 2016 since its debut last month, and will be broadcast in the USA starting January 15 on PBS, in the Sunday night “Downton Abbey” slot. Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes are both lined up to return, as is the show’s writing team consisted of Daisy Goodwin, Damien Timmer and Kate McKerrell. It is not yet known what the second series will depict.
