In South Korea, where the government did not issue an official recall, the consumers who missed the Monday deadline can now get only a replacement for their Samsung phone. As it stands over in the US, Samsung has already brought in replacement units, about 500,000 of them and are now conducting exchanges. A recent survey suggests numerous original buyers may avoid a replacement model. Nam Taek-joo, an official at the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards, told the Associated Press that Samsung’s recall measures were inadequate.

If an owner somehow missed all those exhortations?
While Samsung may be keeping up with customer demand in the short run, the company is likely to take a reputational hit in the longer term, amid criticism that its communication on the recall was confusing. The notice will appear every time they power up or charge their device.

While many have complained about their Galaxy S7/Edge units overheating, which is a common for all sorts high volume of devices, there have been some incidences of the flagships catching ablaze. However, not all of them were affected by the battery issue. That same year, in 2006, a similar issue caused a recall of 1.1 million battery packs for Apple notebooks.
