Sunday’s Carolina Panthers game is still on despite Charlotte rioting

With the upcoming Carolina Panthers home game versus the Minnesota Vikings at Bank of America Stadium taking place on Sunday, the Panthers and National Football League officials are preparing for the very real possibility of moving their home game away from Charlotte and the violent protests. But we also, as black people, have to do right by ourselves.

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory declared a State of Emergency on Thursday.

The Minnesota Vikings (2-0) will try to stay unbeaten this week on the road against the Carolina Panthers (1-1).

On Sunday the Carolina Panthers square off against the Minnesota Vikings presumably at Bank of America Stadium.

Davis isn’t alone in his belief that the game should be played. We’ll post the results Sunday before the big game. “It really is. We’ve got a whole bunch of young men in that locker room that you guys [reporters] all want to ask them what they think about it”.

Rivera said he has faith that city leaders will get the protests under control soon.

“It’s just unfortunate. But the thing about it is these things have been going on for decades and decades on end”.

There is no word about where the game may be played if the league deems a move necessary.

It has been impossible for the Panthers to ignore the events.

Protesters took to the streets in Charlotte overnight and Wednesday morning after Keith L. Scott, 43, was shot and killed by police outside of an apartment complex.

“If you look at the way the South is and the way the game of football is, it has a unique way of bringing people together”, linebacker Thomas Davis said. “It’s not the way to go about things”. That was the first time he didn’t dress since late 2014, but Rivera said Webb would be back in the lineup to face his former team.

Just last season, the Baltimore Orioles postponed two home games against the Chicago White Sox in late April due to protests in the wake of the death of Freddie Gray, who died in police custody on April 12, 2015.

“I’m an African American, and I’m not happy how the justice has been dealt with over the years and the state of oppression in our community, ‘” he said. “Police are here to protect and serve us, but at the same time someone has to be held accountable for what is going on”.

Tre Boston, for example, wouldn’t discount the idea of kneeling during the national anthem and following Kaepernick’s lead.

Newton hopes people understand the approach he is taking in trying to spur change. “And sometimes it can feel disrespectful when you send your message across and somebody doesn’t believe in it”. Zimmer said McKinnon will start.
