NoKor military threatens to use nuclear weapons against Seoul, Guam US base

The North Korea Foreign Minister’s speech to the UN General Assembly on Friday heavily criticized the United Nations Security Council and the USA and defended the country’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

This comes after South Korean Yonhap News Agency cited a military source who said North Korea’s capital would be pummeled over a nuclear threat.

South Korea’s defense minister admitted in Parliament on Wednesday that the country has both a plan and a force to eliminate North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un in the event a nuclear confrontation appears imminent.

Among the aims, he said, would be to prevent North Korea’s abuse of global infrastructure, including banking and shipping, to further its nuclear program.

South Korea has intensified its rhetoric against the leadership of North Korea since Pyongyang claimed a successful test of a nuclear warhead on September 9.

“Going nuclear armed is the policy of our state”, Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho said.

However, last month the U.N. Security Council was unable to condemn the launch of a missile by North Korea that landed near Japan because China wanted the statement to oppose the planned deployment of a USA anti-missile defense system in South Korea.

North Korea, Yun pointed out, is the only country that has conducted nuclear tests in this century and has conducted 22 ballistic missile tests this year alone.

Ri said “the United States will have to face tremendous consequences beyond imagination”.

Last week, the United States, Japan and South Korea condemned the new North Korea’s test and called for tough new measures to further isolate the communist state.

Lavrov also took a swipe at the US, saying it is “inadmissible to use the situation as a pretext for massive militarization of Northeast Asia and deployment of another position area for USA global missile defense system”.

Ri dismissed the Security Council resolutions as unfair.

Russel said that a new United Nations resolution on North Korea would be agreed soon, imposing further sanctions and tightening existing ones against the country.

Ri also defended the North Korean nuclear program as a “self-defensive” measure.

“Therefore, I believe that it is high time to seriously consider whether North Korea is qualified to be a peace-loving United Nations member, as many countries are already questioning”, he added.

China, which is in negotiations with the United States on a new sanctions resolution, is also pushing for a resumption of six-party talks on North Korea s nuclear program.
