This is the first presidential election in which Minnesotans are allowed to vote absentee without having to give an excuse.

In Lorain County, like all counties in OH, state law requires that all aspects of elections be administered by a Republican and a Democrat working together – making it one of the most secure systems in the nation.

In his decision, Peterson declared that most of the provisions restricting absentee voting, including the 10-day limit on in-person voting passed by the state Legislature, violated the First and Fourteenth Amendments of the Constitution because they were adopted “principally for political reasons”.

Absentee ballot request forms can be mailed to: Jefferson County Auditor, 51 E. Briggs Ave., Ste 2, Fairfield 52556.

Absentee voting was originally meant to serve voters who would be absent from their homes on election day. Beginning Friday, Facebook sent out a reminder nation-wide to members who are 18 years of age and older.

“The problem with waiting that late is that the mail sometimes can take a little bit longer than normal to get to the person as well as getting back to us, and the ballot has to be back to us by Election Day at 7:00”, Randy Wertz of the Montgomery County General Registrar said.

Because those votes can’t be counted until November 1 this year, that gives early voters an opportunity to change the minds, by asking that their ballot be invalidated so they can get a do-over.

According to the Milwaukee Election Commission, voters in the city can cast ballots in person at the Zeidler Municipal Building, Midtown Center or Forest Home Library. A tracking feature is available to check the status of your ballot. Secretary of State Steve Simon says it may help Minnesota regain its rank as the top state for voter turnout. Skelley says these are not swing voters who are part of a get-out-the-vote operation.

How many states have early voting? “If it gets too close to Election Day you probably want to drop it off in person”.

“You actually can be issued an absentee ballot to the very end, but if you’re doing it by mail, it depends on your risk tolerance”, Simon said. Local officials in Hennepin County saw early voting totals rise 70 percent in the 2014 midterm elections and expect to receive the most early votes in the county’s history over the next 46 days. He thinks plenty of people already know who they want to run the country.
