Sturridge has spent the majority of his recovery period in Boston under the auspices of the Red Sox’s sports science and medical staff, also employed by Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group.
However, Sturridge is expected to be in contention for a competitive return after three weeks’ training, giving the striker a chance of featuring in the trip to Old Trafford.
According to the newspaper, the England worldwide has confirmed that he will be returning to the UK soon after successfully recovering from a hip injury Stateside, indicating that he would be back training with the Liverpool squad next week.
Sturridge will add to Brendan Rodgers’s plethora of options in the strikers department, with Christian Benteke, Danny Ings, Fabio Borini and Mario Balotelli on the books at the Merseyside club.
Liverpool’s head of performance Glen Driscoll and lead physio Chris Morgan flew to the US this week to assess his progress.
The 25-year-old’s campaign was ravaged by injuries last year and he underwent surgery on his hip in New York in May to seek a long-term solution to his niggling problems.
