Mr Martin’s arrest came after multiple residents called police claiming to have seen the spooky clown, who was wearing a costume that matched Mr Martin’s.
The arrest comes amid a wave of reports of suspicious clowns in at least six other US states.
“Dressing as a clown and driving, walking or standing in public can create a unsafe situation for you and others”, police in nearby Barbourville, Kentucky, said in a statement online. “Approaching people in a threatening manner and threatening people is illegal”.
Police in Barbourville, Kentucky, warned that the reports “have created a real concern and risk”.
In recent weeks, several places across the East Coast have received reports of people in clown costumes attempting to lure children into wooded areas.
Jamie Hill posted a photo of a clown on Facebook.
In Alabama, schools across the state ramped up security after reports emerged on social media that clowns were going to attack local high schools with guns.
