Luke Del Rio Injury: Updates on Florida QB’s Knee and Return
On North Texas’ second play from scrimmage, Caleb Brantley submarined into quarterback Mason Fine for a safety.

Despite missing the North Texas game with his quad injury, Callaway remains Florida’s leader in receiving yards through three games.
University of North Texas defensive lineman Joshua Wheeler delivered the hit.
Tennessee defensive coordinator Bob Shoop discusses Austin Appleby: Shoop’s brother, John Shoop, was Appleby’s quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at Purdue. The injury sparked a response from head coach Jim McElwain where had to be restrained by his players on the field. We’ll kind of see how that goes.
Purdue transfer Austin Appleby is more of a pocket passer, and while his numbers from previous years aren’t exactly inspiring (19 touchdowns and 19 interceptions through 16 games) either, there’s no way to know how he’ll respond when pressed into duty. Appleby threw for 2,777 yards, with 19 touchdowns and 19 interceptions in 17 games with the Boilermakers. He also has nine touchdown runs.
Although Appleby has done this before, including a start at Nebraska in 2014, there’s really no telling how he will handle sold-out Neyland Stadium (102,455) on Saturday. Sutton started the first three games and was credited with eight tackles, two for losses.
“It breaks my heart that it had to come by an injury”, Appleby said. It’s not going to be new to me. “We’ll get a good week of work in, put a good plan in and I am excited for those opportunities if that is what happens”.
It looks like the No. 23 Gators (3-0 overall and 1-0 in the SEC) are preparing to go forward without him. The coach added that he will get freshmen Kyle Trask and Feleipe Franks ready behind Appleby.
Del Rio left Saturday night’s 32-0 win over North Texas in Gainesville, Fla., late in the third quarter. “And I’ve been modeling myself after him, and ever since that I’ve been a Gator”. Those four guys are in there going through the install. We really got after them I thought our energy was pretty good.
McElwain did not offer a specific diagnosis for Del Rio other than to say “he’s got a bum leg”. Del Rio fell awkwardly but was able to walk off the field under his own power.
“I’ve never been around a place where our coach truly cared”, he said.
Starting outside linebacker Daniel McMillian, who has been battling an ankle sprain, is questionable or doubtful for Saturday’s game, McElwain said. “Thank you for your love and support Gator Nation as well”.

But what also made his decision easier was that he’s been a Gators fan since before transferring.
