United States election: Donald Trump propagating unsafe ideas, says rock legend Bruce Springsteen
In an upcoming interview with Rolling Stone, rock and roll icon Bruce Springsteen didn’t hold back about his thoughts on Donald Trump. He described Trump’s ideas as “dangerous”, citing rigged elections, white nationalism, and the alt-right movement among them. Some are no-brainers (“Badlands”, “The River”, “My Father’s House”, “Born in the U.S.A.”), but others like 1992’s “Living Proof” (off of Lucky Town) and “Long Time Coming” (from 2005’s Devils & Dust) were perhaps included due to their autobiographical content-the former about the birth of his first child, the latter written through the eyes of a character but featuring themes of distant fathers and redemption (“my daddy, he was just a stranger”) that feel at least partly inspired by Doug Springsteen. “And it’s a very, very risky thing to do”, Springsteen, 67, told the magazine. Springsteen also criticized him for not immediately disavowing David Duke. These are things that are obviously beyond the pale for any previous political candidate. “It would sink your candidacy”.

It’s the price for not addressing “the real cost of the deindustrialization and globalization that has occurred in the United States the last 35, 40 years”, Springsteen argued.
“He comes with simple answers to very complex questions”.
“It is very hard to deal with the complexities of politics. And that can be very appealing”, Springsteen mused.
Springsteen songs like “Born in the United States of America”, “I’m on Fire”, and “No Surrender” have been used by politicians, including John Kerry and President Barack Obama, in recent years as classically-American anthems. “The whole thing is tragic”, Springsteen said.
Andrew Weinstein, co-founder of LLI and former adviser to House Speaker Newt Gingrich, said there has been little analysis of a possible Trump presidency. He clearly doesn’t see Trump as the solution to any of the country’s problems. Which is true, and again manages to strike a deeply reserved tone against the man who deserves more accurate monikers, like “Douchebag who lies so much, he makes normal politicians resemble Mark Twain”.
