Arsene Wenger calls for cold-blooded approach against Chelsea’s Diego Costa

The Arsenal manager said he was concentrating exclusively on the Gunners’ Premier League clash with Chelsea today and did not want to linger on the controversial quote, contained in a new biography of Manchester United boss Mourinho being serialized in the Daily Mail newspaper.

Mourinho’s Chelsea went on to beat Wenger’s Arsenal 6-0 a few weeks after that incident, with Wenger refusing to speak to the media after the game as he said he needed to catch the Gunners team bus.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he could have landed the services of Diego Costa, had the striker not made the surprise decision to leave Atletico Madrid.

Constantly niggling and riling his opponents as become part of Costa’s game, with the 27-year-old lucky to escape to red cards already this season.

“But he was in the a year ago of his contract and we were very close to extending his contract”.

Antonio Conte faces Wenger in a game that will mark the final Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium before the Arsenal manager celebrates his 20th anniversary in charge of the north London club.

“I like him as a player”. I think that Arsene Wenger is doing a good job, but it’s normal that, when every single year you fight for the title, you want to win.

Asked why the Spaniard had got off to a flying start and he hadn’t, Conte said: “I think that Manchester City are playing similar football to what they played in the past”.

“First and foremost, it’s a massive game and we just need to keep our discipline and stay in the game”, he told the club’s official website.

“We talk about that because in the last two games, we’ve played against Chelsea with 10 men”, he said. When you can organise and do your work, and there is great satisfaction on both sides, there is the possibility to have a good work.

Wenger is now in the final year of his contract with the north London club and it remains to be seen whether he will sign a new deal to stay at The Emirates beyond the summer. If I was a director and I didn’t see good work [being done behind the scenes] but that the team was still winning, I’m not sure that’s good for the future.
