Uri attack: India summons Pakistani envoy

These remarks were given a day after the Indian delegate, Eenam Gambhir, accused Pakistan of promoting terrorism in occupied Kashmir and elsewhere while addressing the UNGA session in response to Prime Miniser Nawaz Sharif’s statement on Kashmir.

He expressed shock at Sharif’s mention of dead Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in his address. “Shows continued Pak attachment to terrorism”, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

In his nearly 20-minute speech, almost half of which was focused on Kashmir, Sharif had hailed Wani – who was killed on July 8 by the Indian forces resulting in tensions in the Valley – as a “young leader” and the “symbol” of the Kashmiris freedom movement. Sunday’s attack was “part of a trail of continuous flow of terrorists trained and armed by our neighbor”, she said, accusing Pakistan of being a “terrorist state”, financing, training and supporting terror groups, sometimes with interntional aid money.

“It has always been the policy of Pakistan to internationalise the Kashmir issue”. Wani is declared commander of Hizbul, widely acknowledged as a terror group.

The brutal takedown of Pakistan is part of India’s diplomatic offensive to isolate Pakistan in the global arena+, in the aftermath of the Uri attack+ that saw terrorists from Pakistan-based outfits attack a military camp in Jammu and Kashmir.

“We heard the glorification of a terrorist”.

Mr. Lu stressed that China pursue a “consistent position regarding counter-terrorism”.

Sharif in his speech at the United Nations said, “Kashmiris want freedom from India”.

The issue brought out unity in the Indian Polity and leaders from all the political parties slammed Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan.

India has raised the issue of terrorists crossing over from the Pakistani Kashmir.

India also strongly rejected Sharif’s call for “a serious and sustained” dialogue “without any conditions”, with Akbar saying that Islamabad is talking about dialogue with a “gun in its hand”.

“Peace and normalization between India and Pakistan can’t be achieved without discussion on Jammu and Kashmir”, Sharif was quick to add. The Afghan government has suggested that South Asian states should come together to boycott the SAARC summit in Islamabad over Pakistan’s role in “destabilising” the neighbourhood.

The ‘Pakistan State Sponsor of Terrorism Designation Act (HR 6069) has been moved by two US lawmakers- Republican Ted Poe and Democrat Dana Rohrabacher- in the US House of Representatives to designate Pakistan a state sponsor of terrorism.

The diplomat reminded the United Nations that the trail of the most “horrifying” and “dastardly terror attack” of 9/11 led all the way to Abbottabad in Pakistan, where Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was hiding “for years” and was killed by U.S. forces.
