In a subsequent police shootout, Rahami was shot multiple times outside an auto fix shop, several blocks west of the bar, she said.

An Afghan-born American was charged on Monday with attempted murder after being shot and captured in connection with bombings in NY and New Jersey, thrusting security fears into the heart of the election.

Ahmad Khan Rahami was also charged by the prosecutor in Union County, New Jersey, on weapons-related offences, news reports said.

After hedging on any potential terror angle over the weekend, Mayor de Blasio said at a news briefing Monday that there is “every reason to believe” the bombings in the city and in New Jersey were “an act of terror”. “Thank you to our first responders who have performed with extraordinary skill and courage over the past two days”.

A shrapnel-packed pressure-cooker bomb detonated on Saturday night in NY injuring 29 people.

Rahami’s family sued Elizabeth in 2011, accusing the city and local police department of religious and ethnic discrimination in forcing them to close their chicken restaurant by 10:00 pm. No other suspects are being sought in relation to the bombings, officials have said.

Rahami left that job in 2011 because he wanted to take a trip to Afghanistan, Spriggs said.

Police Commissioner James O’Neill told reporters Wednesday he wants New Yorkers to report what they see. Also on Saturday, a pipe bomb disrupted a charity run in New Jersey, and a man injured nine people with a knife at a Minnesota shopping mall.

Federal prosecutors said they were considering charges over the bombings that wounded 29 people. An unexploded pressure cooker with a cellphone attached and wires protruding was found four blocks away; it was taken to a firing range, where it was safely detonated.

Among the pieces being analyzed were video from NY and electronic toll records that showed a auto Rahami had driven in the past traveled from New Jersey to Manhattan and back on Saturday, the Associated Press reported, citing officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss an ongoing case.

– Two sources tell NPR that a note mentioning the Boston Marathon bombers and radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki was found near an undetonated bomb found on West 27th Street in New York City. Konya said the baby was born at the end of senior year or shortly thereafter, remembering that Rahami’s girlfriend “was very pregnant” by their senior prom.

Rahami and two police officers were wounded in the exchange of gunfire.

San Jose, California-based eBay Inc. noted that the products are legal and widely available and said the company had worked with law enforcement on the investigation.

But Ahmad Rahami’s demeanor – increasingly devout but more likely to talk about worldly pursuits than his faith – never hinted at anything but goodwill, customers said.

Rahami’s wife met with US law enforcement officials while in the United Arab Emirates and voluntarily gave a statement, a law enforcement official said on Wednesday.

The FBI confirmed that it had looked into the younger Rahami after what it called a “domestic dispute” but found no evidence tying him to terrorism.

Authorities also said that Rahami was not on any federal terror watchlist or on the NYPD’s radar prior to Saturday’s attack.

Earlier, New Jersey State Police said Rahami was thought to have been driving a 2003 blue Honda Civic with New Jersey plate number D63EYB.

The bombs discovered Saturday all used flip cellphones as a trigger and were all made with easily purchasable materials, a federal law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity said.

The discovery of the Manhattan devices came hours after a pipe bomb exploded in a trash bin at the Marine 5K in Seaside Park.

He spent several weeks in Kandahar, Afghanistan, and in Quetta, Pakistan in 2011.
