“I think there’s a reason why we haven’t had a woman president before and so she’s having to break down some barriers”, he said of the Democratic nominee.

But Roberts, a Democrat, says Charlotte’s security resources are “very stretched”, and is asking both candidates to give Charlotte “a chance to get our city back to order” before visiting.

Hillary Clinton has chose to delay a planned Sunday visit to Charlotte after Mayor Jennifer Roberts on Friday urged the presidential candidates to postpone trips, the campaign announced late Friday.

Clinton made the decison to delay her visit orignally planned for Sunday after meeting with community leaders.

Clinton’s campaign said earlier Friday that she would travel to Charlotte on Sunday, one day before her first high-profile debate with Republican Donald Trump.

The shooting death of Scott by police last week has sparked demonstrations in Charlotte and other U.S. cities over the use of lethal force by police, particularly against African-Americans. Amid increased pressure to do so, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has not yet released dashcam footage of the shooting.

Clinton called Friday for officials in Charlotte to make public a police video showing the fatal shooting of Scott. “We must ensure justice and work to bridge divides”, Clinton said in a tweet.

Roberts, who has seen all of the videos depicting the event, told Burnett the three clips “have obscured or blurred or it is not precise enough view of what was actually going on”. Meanwhile, his wife pleads with officers not to shoot her husband. Police have said he was armed, but witnesses have said he held only a book.

Clinton said Wednesday that the shootings had added two more names “to a long list of African-Americans killed by police officers”.
