Wife of Keith Scott releases video of Charlotte shooting

An attorney for the family of the black man shot by Charlotte police says newly released video recorded by the victim’s wife does not prove whether the shooting was justified. Scott’s grieving family has been shown the dashboard and body camera videos of his fatal shooting, but Charlotte Police Chief Kerr Putney says he had no plans to release the police video at this time.

Police officers in the background repeatedly tell Scott to drop his gun while Scott’s wife tells him not to get out of his vehicle. Rakeyia Scott can be heard on the video telling police that her husband does not have a gun, and that “he has a T.B.I”. Don’t shoot. Don’t shoot. (Traumatic Brain Injury). While Mrs. Scott continuously tries to cool down the situation, an officer is heard saying drop the gun. Keith’s wife explains that Scott just took his medicine and that he is not going to harm the police officers.

The wife of Keith Lamont Scott videotaped the encounter between her husband and police on Tuesday.

RAKEYIA SCOTT: Keith, don’t let them break the windows. About a half-dozen gunshots can be heard in the video released to USA media, followed by her scream, “Did you shoot him?”

The video can be viewed here (warning: contains content that some might find disturbing or offensive).

Protesters and Scott’s family have called on authorities to release the video.

As depicted in the eyewitness video, the scene plays out under bright sunlight, from a vantage point that’s a short distance away from the confrontation between Keith Lamont Scott and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers. Scott was shot as he walked slowly backward with his hands by his side, Bamberg said.

Charlotte police have been under mounting pressure to release their footage of the shooting.

RAKEYIA SCOTT: Keith! Don’t you do it.

Charlotte has seen three nights of protests since Scott’s death, much of it has been peaceful, but Wednesday night became violent and resulted in extensive property damage and the shooting death of a 26-year-old man.

“He better live. I swear he better live”.

She said the video was “inconclusive” as to whether Mr Scott was holding a gun. Scott’s family claims he had no weapon and was simply holding a book.

Rakeyia Scott: Ain’t nobody touch anybody, so they all good. Police continue to yell at Scott to “drop the gun” and, moments later, multiple gunshots ring out. How about that I’m not coming to you guys, but he better live.
