The preregistration deadline is October 18, but state law allows voters to register in-person at an early voting center or at their polling place on Election Day. Early voting locations also include the Hill City Finance Office for voters in the Hill City precinct; and the Wall Finance Office for voters in the Wall, Quinn, Creighton, Wasta, and Scenic (Caputa) precincts. The cover letter, which is on the center’s letter head, informs voters that “according to our records” they are not registered to vote in the jurisdiction where they live. Kathleen Clyde, a Kent Democrat, who added that it’s “disingenuous” to leave out hundreds of thousands of voters from getting absentee ballot applications. The voter will receive an email with a username, password and a link to access their ballot.

If it is your first time registering or if your address has changed since the last time you voted, then you must provide proof of residence.
But there is a great deal of interest in making sure overseas USA military members and their families get their ballots.
Simon says he hopes the easier voting methods will help get Minnesota back to number one in voter turnout. “These people are in harm’s way serving the nation overseas and should have every opportunity to participate in the election”.
But an investigation by the Akron Beacon Journal (http://bit.ly/2cokeRc ) finds that some of these voters have voted as recently as March and haven’t moved.

The letter asks county recorders to seek a legal opinion from their county attorneys if they plan to use the October 10 deadline.

Voters can request an absentee ballot even if they are not registered to vote – a voter registration application will be provided with their ballot. The ballot is counted with other absentee ballots. “Please make sure that you are able to exercise that right by registering or updating your voter information”.
