At that September 14 rally past year, Trump called Cuban “a great guy” and thanked him for allowing him to use the arena.

Cuban quickly responded with further taunts at the billionaire. He subsequently tweeted on Friday that he had a front row seat to watch Trump get “humbled” by Hillary Clinton at Monday night’s debate, a ticket which the Clinton campaign then acknowledged they had provided, with a Clinton aide telling CNN that the reason Cuban got an invite and was because, “he has proven to be singularly effective in making the case against Trump and for Clinton”.

Trump is eschewing traditional debate preparations and does not have one specific person playing Clinton, according to multiple reports. One of Hillary Clinton’s aides told CNN the campaign had invited the National Basketball Association team owner to the event.

Cuban could prove to be a key Clinton surrogate – given that he, like Trump, is an immensely wealthy reality TV star who likes to tweet a lot.

Trump, for his part, has said that Cuban is “not smart enough to understand what we’re doing.” “But at some point, you’ve got to start learning and understanding the issues, you know?” he said in that interview. “Donald, initially, I really hoped he would be something different, that as a businessperson, I thought there was an opportunity there”.

Cuban and Trump, 70, have been rivals for some time. Back in 2012, Cuban dared Trump to shave his head for charity, offering to pay $1 million if Trump went through with it. “He’s an arrogant, crude, dope who met some very stupid people”.
