The Man Who Pied the Sacramento Mayor
The mayor’s Chief of Staff Crystal Strait called the Wednesday night, September 21, 2016, incident at the Sacramento Charter High School a shocking assault, but said the mayor wasn’t hurt.

In images and video of the interview, Thompson has a swollen black eye and two sets of stitches on his face.
“When I threw the pie at him, right at that moment, I shouted at him”.
A few of Thompson’s supporters came to see the activist in court.
Johnson’s signature achievement in office is securing a $550 million arena for the Sacramento Kings, which Thompson says detracted from more important public issues.
The Capitol Hill outfit, citing East Bay Express, reports that a protester ran up to the mayor-a former National Basketball Association star-at a dinner event and threw a pie in his face.
Johnson, who spent 12 seasons as point guard for the Phoenix Suns, reacted by reportedly tackling the pie-wielder.
“In all that time, I feel like I never accomplished anything”, he told KCRA, adding that he’s been arrested nine times in for years.
“(He) really hit him hard with that pie”, said business owner Bobbin Mulvaney. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article. Some said the reaction was not “reasonable force”.
“He’s fighting, and he doesn’t know if he’s fighting to keep this guy from getting- if he has another weapon on him”, Mulvaney said.
He said the mayor turned and hit him at least twice “and pretty hard”.
As for Thompson, he wouldn’t speak about how long he’s planned this out.
Thompson told ABC station KXTV-TV the incident landed him in the hospital.
Thompson has been identified as a former Sacramento City College student and Occupy Sacramento activist, though he wanted to be clear that his actions were not a product of any Occupy agenda.

Thompson, who the Bee reports has been active in Occupy protests and has been arrested multiple times, was charged with felony assault of a public official and a misdemeanor charge of battery on school property.
