Sound of Music star Charmian Carr dies from dementia at 73
The manager of her website Steve Hughes posted: “My name is Steve Hughes, and my company has been managing Charmian Carr’s website for many, many years”.

Rita Farnon hadn’t asked Charmian if she wanted to audition for the part, but Charmian was sure her mother would consider getting a part in a film more important than earning a college diploma.
After starring in the musical, she got married and had two daughters, leaving the film industry in order to focus on raising her family.
The Sixteen Going on Seventeen singer battled a rare form of dementia, her rep said.
She later went on to star with Anthony Perkins in the Stephen Sondheim television musical Evening Primrose.
Later, in 2000, Charmian wrote and published her first book, Forever Liesl-a work to be followed with her second, Letters to Liesl, the following year. The actress fully embraced audiences” love for her role in the American Broadway theater “Rodgers and Hammerstein, reports The Guardian.
Carr later opened a design business, working with pop star Michael Jackson – himself a fan of The Sound of Music. She is also survived by the six other actors who were cast as the von Trapp children. She played the role of Liesl Von Trapp, the eldest daughter in the musical family.
Carr was born in Chicago in 1942 and played the oldest of the von Trapp sisters in the Oscar-winning movie, which was headlined by Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Her family moved to Los Angeles when she was 10. “She will be greatly missed”.
Kym Karath, who played Gretl in the film, tweeted: “It is with infinite sadness that I share the tragic news that the precious and exquisite Charmain Carr, attractive Liesel, has passed away”.

Nicholas Hammond, who played her brother Friedrich, tweeted about Carr’s death on Sunday, writing, “May she rest in peace”.
