The authorities do not yet know the suspect’s motivation, he said. A news conference was set for Saturday night.

“You’d think it would happen in Everett or Seattle, but a small town of Burlington, I’d never dream something like this would happen”.

“I’m a little nervous even taking her to her soccer game today with this person still on the loose”, she said of her 7-year-old daughter. The identity of the man who was fatally shot was also withheld.

Lt Chris Cammock of Mount Vernon Police Department said Cetin, who is expected to appear in court on Monday, was from Turkey but a “legal, permanent resident of the United States”.

Police spokesman Sgt. Mark Francis told reporters that the man was armed with a “long gun, a rifle-type gun”.

“When he exited the scene, I can’t speak to routes and things like that right now”, Lieutenant Cammock said.

Eleven search teams and two K-9 teams spent several hours clearing and securing the mall.

The gunman remained at large. As of Saturday morning local time, the bodies remained at the store, said the Skagit County coroner, Hayley Thompson.
