Kansas City Chiefs Come Way Back In Season Opener

CHIEFS CHURNING: Even without running back Jamaal Charles, who continues his own comeback from an ACL injury, the Chiefs were able to run their usual offense with backup Spencer Ware. He had six catches for 74 yards, picking up a crucial third down that kept the winning overtime drive alive.

The Chargers went 24-3 with a field goal, but the momentum shifted in the fourth quarter in favor of the Chiefs.

“I thought he was going to make it”, McCoy said of the 54-yard field goal try. It shocked us that Coleman was owned in only 42 percent of Yahoo leagues leading up to Week 1, but you can bet after he split time nearly equally with Devonta Freeman and noticeably outperformed him, Coleman will be in demand. “I’m just glad to have him”.

Benjamin had a team-high seven receptions in the loss to the Chiefs, but for only 32 yards. The four-time Pro Bowl running back is still recovering from surgery last season to fix his ACL and was inactive Sunday.

WHAT A RUSH: The Chiefs managed one sack without star pass rusher Justin Houston, out after knee surgery in February.
