Police investigating shooting near University of IL campus

Police in Champaign, Ill., are investigating a shooting near the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus.

It’s a popular campus bar, the University of IL has students from all over the world, some of them may be dead tonight.

At this time, police have not released any information on a suspect.

Officers from U of I Police, Champaign Police, Urbana Police, and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office are on the scene.

Several shots were fired between Third and Fourth streets on Green street in Champaign, the university’s alert service said Sunday recommending to avoid the area, Sputnik International reported.

The shooter has probably left the area.

Social media users say up to nine people were shot, all now hospitalized.

Reports that two people were fatally shot could not be officially confirmed at time of reporting.

Police sent out an alert sent urging locals to stay away from the campus area. However, there is no official confirmation so far.
