Dodgers beat Rockies 5-2 on emotional night for Scully

Joc Pederson and Andre Ethier homered, and the Los Angeles Dodgers inched closer to a fourth straight National League West title with a 5-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies before an announced sellout crowd of 52,320 at Dodger Stadium on Friday night.

“I’m trying to live”. I have to side with the Dodgers to get another victory.

Dodgers: Kershaw (11-3, 1.73) is 7-1 with a 1.19 ERA in nine home starts. Oddly enough, Colorado’s ace lasted just four innings, needing 106 pitches to do so. “He’s got the total package”. “The people of Los Angeles, even though they were at the game, didn’t enjoy it without hearing Vin tell them about it”. Kershaw has 168 strikeouts in just 20 starts this season.

Kershaw last faced the Rockies on September 14, 2015, allowing one run on three hits in seven innings and recording the win in the Dodgers’ 4-1 victory. “I can still pitch the way I’m used to”.

“I feel bad for Kaz”, Roberts said. “But there are some things to work on pitching-wise”. It was Reddick’s fourth career slam and the seventh this season for the Dodgers. Reddick finished the night 3-for-4 with the slam, a double, five RBI and three runs scored.

Reddick is red-hot this month, batting.397 with five doubles, two homers and eight RBIs in eight games after struggling last month.

“As many times as I’ve been on this field, I’ve never been this nervous”. “You just have to keep grinding. I’ve got to be better than that”. Pederson scored on left fielder Ryan Raburn’s error and Turner singled to drive in his second run.

“He’s got everything in his game”, Weiss said. “It’s a fun game to pitch”.

Jon Gray reached double-digit strikeouts for the sixth time this season.

Kershaw (12-3) didn’t allow a baserunner through 3 2/3 innings, until Arenado legged out an infield single.

“I think it’s good, especially for our younger players, to be playing some good teams down the stretch, teams who are fighting for the playoffs”, Weiss said before the game, also pointing to last week’s series against St. Louis, which is battling for an NL wild-card berth. “It was a fun game to be a part of”.

Stripling (5-8) allowed two hits in three innings, struck out four and walked two.

“It was pretty embarrassing”, Bettis said. The Dodgers went on to score a run before the inning ended. “He came threw with his first Major League Baseball home run”. “You saw some thunder in that bat”.

Scully, who has broadcast Dodgers games since 1950, will call his final Dodger home game on Sunday before calling his final game on the road against the San Francisco Giants on October 2. The Dodgers Magic Number to clinch the division is down to one. But we’ll save it for tomorrow, I guess.

Clayton Kershaw: Seven shutout innings. Turner went 3 for 3, drove in two runs and drew two walks.

Kershaw’s revival has been more dramatic and fraught with importance for the Dodgers than Josh Reddick’s.

Kazmir was already an unlikely choice to make a postseason start for the Dodgers.

The Rockies (73-82) lost their third in a row.

It was just Kershaw’s fourth start since a 2 ½-month stint on the disabled list with a mildly herniated disc in his lower back.
