William and Kate will leave George and Charlotte in the care of their Spanish nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo while they attend their first engagement, an official ceremonial welcome at British Columbia Parliament Buildings.

While Australia, Jamaica and Barbados have talked about becoming republics, Canada has shown less interest in replacing Queen Elizabeth II as the figurative head of state.

The country’s Globe And Mail newspaper has described the trip as a “match made in paparazzi heaven, featuring Prince William, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and their equally telegenic families”.

Monique Girard, a 23-year-old full time mother originally from South Africa, said the Duchess had offered her some advice for her six-month-old daughter, Scarlett, whom she was carrying in a sling.

The Duke is also expected to make a speech, addressing Canadians in person for the first time since he and the Duchess undertook their 2011 tour as newlyweds.

Well-wisher Aurora Vandall, 36, from Victoria, said she had spoken to the Duke to welcome him to Canada: “He said “I hope the children aren’t tearing up the Governor’s House right now”.

The rest of the visit will take William and Kate to the island of Bella-Bella for a traditional indigenous ceremony at the foot of a totem poll, then for a hike through a rainforest before heading north to the city of Whitehorse in the Yukon, a wild, mountainous territory with a sparse population.

The trip is Prince William’s second to the Pacific Coast province of British Columbia.

“We feel very fortunate to have time to get to really know parts of this Country that we did not get to visit in 2001, but which I have very happy memories as a shy teenager”.

Princess Charlotte too, with the encouragement of her mother, attempted to wave her hand before gazing around her at her new surroundings.

“She also talked a little bit about her children”, said Victoria. This news story is related to Print/152482-Prince-William-Kate-visit-Canada/ – breaking news, latest news, pakistan ne.

On Sunday, the couple will arrive at Vancouvers downtown seaplane terminal and visit the Jack Poole Plaza followed by a visit at Sheway, an outreach program for vulnerable pregnant women in Vancouvers Downtown Eastside community.
