Before it was even caught I started having those feelings of satisfaction.

Third baseman Evan Longoria called Cobb “the emotional leader” of Tampa Bay’s staff.

Ramirez wasn’t sure what his future held when San Diego cut him loose, but he’s happy for the chance he’s been given. “I don’t know exactly what point it was where it happened”.

“I’ve watched (Cobb) work from spring training through the season, seen the competitor that he is”, Dickerson said.

Following the fourth World Baseball Classic, the first pitch of the MLB season will go Sun., April 2, with the Rays hosting the Yankees and the San Francisco Giants travelling to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks. Toronto has won just three of their last 10 games overall. Dickerson’s homer was the teams 200th homer on the year, a franchise record.

The reigning AL MVP sat out Wednesday’s game, his third straight, with a hip injury. The results were not immediately available.

The loss also left the Jays at 3-9 in September, a devastating falloff which has seen them drop from a two-game lead atop the division to a slim 1.5-game lead over Detroit and NY for final wild card berth (prior to Wednesday night’s games).

Both the Jays and O’s are two games behind the AL East leading Boston Red Sox.

“For him to be saying ‘It’s barking pretty good, ‘ it’s barking pretty good”, manager John Gibbons said.

“When I hit the base it was more some other things that were going on”. The veteran right-hander has allowed 13 runs – 12 earned – over his last 12 2/3 innings.

“It looked like he hit a wall and he was starting to labor there in the fifth inning”, Gibbons said of Estrada. “I felt like I threw the ball really well”.

Estrada struck out his first five batters and six of his first nine. He was relieved by Danny Barnes who gave up another run before getting out of the inning. Kiermaier hit a two run home run driving in Forsythe who had singled. Estrada left after Nick Franklin’s one-out single in the sixth.

Just before the final out of Wednesday’s game, the Jays announced the hiring of former Red Sox GM Ben Cherrington as VP of baseball operations.

In the midst of his longest hitless streak (23 at-bats) since being traded to Toronto, Donaldson hopes to return for the team’s seven-game road trip beginning Thursday against the Angels.

The Blue Jays’ battle to remain viable in the American League playoff race took another blow with yet another loss to Tampa on Wednesday afternoon at the Rogers Centre. Lefty Blake Snell (5-8, 3.62 ERA) will open the series for the Rays and Yovani Gallardo (5-7, 5.44 ERA) will take the mound for the O’s.
