Police capture gunman in U.S. mall shooting that killed 5

Although police initially said Cetin was Hispanic, Lt. Cammoc said, “He immigrated from Turkey but he is a a legal permanent resident of the United States.we will be asking [federal authorities] to look deeper into immigration issues”.

Authorities announced earlier that the suspect had been apprehended Saturday evening.

The rifle was later recovered at the mall, said Cammock, who is commander of the Skagit County Multi-Agency Response Team.

The suspect’s arrest capped a frantic search following the slayings of five people the day before. The shooting comes less than a week after a man stabbed nine people at a mall in the central Minnesota city of St. Cloud before being shot dead by an off-duty police officer.

In all, he spent just 10 minutes in the mall.

Prosecutors have not charged Cetin in the shooting.

Online records show Cetin was arrested last June for a misdemeanor assault. Cetin was carrying a satchel with a computer inside and was in a “zombielike” state when he was taken into custody, the lieutenant said. Hawley said Cetin was unarmed: “He said nothing”.

A Facebook page that appeared to belong to Cetin – and which has since been taken down – said he was born in the southern Turkish city of Adana.

The motive for the shooting in the cosmetics section of a Macy’s department store is unknown.

Beatrice was 95 years old.

Burlington Mayor Steve Sexton called the shooting a “devastating loss” of five treasured members of the small community.

The identities of the victims – the man and four women who ranged in age from a teenager to a senior citizen – were withheld pending autopsies and notification of family.

“Someone ran by and said, “There’s an active shooter in the mall” and told us to lock our gate”, Doc Barron, who had been teaching a boxing class at the mall, told the Skagit Valley Herald.

The youngest victim was named as Sarai Lara, 16, who survived cancer as a young girl.
