When the Chiefs’ offence was stagnant early in the fourth quarter, and the Chargers were holding a comfortable 27-10 lead, it was Ware who injected some life into his struggling team. Travis Benjamin, Antonio Gates, and Danny Woodhead still figure to operate as Philip Rivers’ top three options, but San Diego threw 41.7 times per game past year (tied for second most), so there’s plenty of potential for its secondary receivers.

Smith was absolutely dealing in the second half, when he completed all sorts of hard passes – ones that required touch, arm strength or both – and made the kind of plays he’s been criticized for not delivering in the past.
“You got to give them credit”. His 18-yard scoring pass to rookie Will Fuller with 12:44 remaining in the fourth quarter provided the Texans the lead for good.
