Donald Trump gave an empathetic speech on crime and race Thursday – his latest attempt to attract black voters after his remarks two days earlier caused a backlash.

“So we all respect our police greatly, and they will just have to get better and better and better”, Mr. Trump said.

“We’re going to rebuild our inner cities because our African American communities are absolutely in the worst shape they’ve ever been in before”, he said at a rally Tuesday.

Trump has repeatedly said black Americans should vote for him because he says they are in such a dire state.

“How can we lead when we can’t even control our own cities?”

Trump tweeted that he spoke with North Carolina Gov.

“African Americans and Latinos in these communities are the ones who are suffering in terms of lost jobs, lost property values and, really, lost lives”, he told the Pennsylvania crowd. Pledging to work with local law enforcement agencies, Trump praised some of police policies adopted by supporter Rudy Giuliani when he served as mayor of New York City during the 1990s. “I’ve already gotten the endorsement from so many different groups and they’re great people”. “It’s a bad thing that we’re witnessing”, Trump told “Fox and Friends” during an interview.

“I would do stop and frisk”.

Shelby is being charged with manslaughter for her “wrongdoings.” “I mean, it’s a bad thing that we’re witnessing”. She planned a speech focused on how the economy can work for people with disabilities, an implicit poke at Trump’s much-publicized mocking of a disabled journalist during a rally a year ago. Trump said at the energy conference.

His Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, was behind closed doors as she prepared for their initial debate and did not address on Thursday the escalating racial tensions in Charlotte, North Carolina. Crutcher was not armed and had his hands in the air, but according to police accounts, did not follow officers’ orders and began walking away from a patrol auto and toward his own vehicle.

“At the center of our society is going to be a simple promise to every American – and it’s called safety”. “But we do know that we have two more names to add to a long list of African-Americans killed by police officers”. The incident was captured on police cameras, and Trump commented on the widely-seen video.

Trump suggested the police officer who fatally shot Crutcher “got scared” or “was choking”, referring to individuals who fail under pressure.

Its endorsement still stands, the Fraternal Order of Police said in a statement, but Trump “must be mindful of the due process rights and presumption of innocence accorded to all, including police officers”.
