NFL Prepared to Move Sunday’s Game Due to Charlotte Riots
Thomas Davis said the Carolina Panthers’ game Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings should “absolutely” be played as scheduled, even with the city being under a state of emergency due to violent protests over a recent police shooting.

The demonstrations came cops fatally shot Keith Lamont Scott, a 43-year-old black man, on Tuesday.
Wednesday protests started peacefully, but events quickly turned violent after demonstrators reached the city’s EpiCentre, a popular area filled with bars and restaurants. And from some cases it’s innocence, and in other cases it was a threat to the police officers. Firefighters rushed in to pull the man to a waiting ambulance.
Carolina quarterback Cam Newton’s press conference on Wednesday afternoon was supposed to be about the Panthers’ game on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. The activity was centered about a mile from Bank of America Stadium, where Sunday’s Vikings-Panthers game is scheduled to be played.
“And I can’t repeat it enough of just holding people accountable”.
According to ESPN’s Newton, a man carrying a megaphone during Wednesday night’s protests demanded that people burn their Cam Newton jerseys if the quarterback failed to take a knee during the national anthem on Sunday. “You say something in another sense, and they’re saying, ‘Oh, he’s just too real, ‘” Newton said.
The good news is, there was a decided lack of chaos on the streets of Charlotte Thursday night and Friday morning, thanks in part to a midnight curfew instituted by the mayor. The game is still on schedule despite Gov.
The ongoing protests around Charlotte have been a growing concern for the Panthers as they prepare for the game.
He then added: “I’m an African-American. I’m hoping people see that and do the same thing”. Davis said he told his boys they should always respect authority figures – police, parents, teachers, whomever – but also said it makes him nervous as a father when he sees images and videos of black people being shot with their hands in the air.
Cam Newton became the latest National Football League player Wednesday to address social issues being experienced by African-Americans and other minorities across the United States, but he also expressed frustration over the expectations he’s faced regarding his public stance on the matter.
