They say Richard Wheeler of South Haven was on board a vehicle that was forced off the road by a forest fire that suddenly shifted directions.

His parents, who had fought wildfires themselves, weren’t even nervous about it. One more week, and Zbyszewski, 20, would have been back at Whitman College, telling stories. It’s just a couple hundred feet from where the forest service members were killed. “The fires have just exploded”, she said Wednesday evening.
Hearts are heavy across the state following the tragic deaths of three Washington firefighters on Wednesday. “It was their calling, but the loss for their families is huge”.
Zbyszewski also followed in his father’s footsteps.
The conditions could force some 100 residents of Essex to evacuate. Rogers posited that the flames then overtook them. “With the high danger the firefighters are experiencing it is crucial we maintain our communications and power equipment and I appreciate the quick review of our request from our federal partners”.
“Everyone loved Andrew and his wife, Jenn”, Kerby told NBC News.
Further information about Wheeler wasn’t immediately available.
Referring to the deaths of the three firefighters, Inslee said: “We know these fires have burned a big hole in our state’s heart”.
He suggested residents “thank a firefighter”. Daniel Lyon, 25, was injured and is being treated at Harborview Hospital in Seattle. “And we are going to remember them and there are 7 million Washingtonians that today are embracing them and their families and praying for them and hoping for the speedy recovery of our injured”.
Both communities were in the path of flames from an array of wildfires dubbed the Okanogan Complex, which has doubled in size since Thursday to scorch some 161,000 acres of brush and dry timber about 115 miles (185 km) northeast of Seattle. We do not have the resources. Three of them, including two of the largest, were burning in Okanogan County.
“We are one degree of separation away from knowing somebody and I have an individual that works for me directly, that is her hometown”, said Welch. “We can not get out and put boots on the ground for all these fires”.
Almost 29,000 firefighters are battling 100 large blazes across the West. Three others sustained injuries but their conditions are not known.
Final details were still being worked out, but the contingent from Australia and New Zealand was expected to arrive in Boise, Idaho, on Sunday.
The accident happened near the town of Twisp, Washington, according to the National Forest Service.
Firefighter Mark Groves, who said he was 32 hours into fighting fire, takes a breather Thursday, August 20, 2015, in Twisp, Wash., a day after three firefighters were killed fighting a wildfire near the town.
U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell and Gov. Kate Brown were to be visit the fire command post on Wednesday at the Grant County Fairgrounds, where food, clothing and household goods for victims were being handed out.

Massive wildfires expanding across arid Washington state have so overtaxed firefighters that the federal government declared an emergency and state officials took the unprecedented step of seeking volunteers to help fight the flames.
