Monday’s debate between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton will be held at 9 p.m.at Hofstra University in Hempstead on Long Island.

Most voters (53 percent) who do not see Trump as qualified to be president, while 58 percent said he lacks the temperament to be an effective president and 55 percent said he lacked the world knowledge required for the job.
In an election year that has upended political convention, the candidates’ best opportunity to conquer their weaknesses will come in the most traditional of campaign forums: Monday’s 90-minute, prime-time debate.
While Mr Trump campaigned in the battleground state of Virginia, Mrs Clinton stayed closer to home in NY while preparing for Monday night’s crucial opening debate.
Neither Trump nor Clinton have been particularly popular with Utah voters, but seeing them side-by-side on the debate stage at Hofstra University in NY on Monday evening could change that.

Thus, some experts expect moderator Lester Holt, to challenge Trump on some answers – especially in the wake of criticism Matt Lauer received for allegedly going soft on the real estate mogul in a presidential forum earlier this month. Holt being involved is a change from 2012, when NBC was left out of the debates because Mitt Romney’s campaign complained they would be treated unfairly due to the network’s relationship with MSNBC, according to The New York Times.

The latter is what most pundits say has to show up if Trump wants to make a splash in front of a general-election audience in a relatively close race.
“Ms. Flowers has agreed to join Donald at the debate”, Judy Stell said.
Fifty-nine per cent of Americans see Trump unfavourably, while 55 per cent have said the same about Clinton.
If the billionaire businessman can show in the debate that he’s presidential, “maybe he could reassure some traditional Republicans he’s reasonable enough to vote for”, Webb said.
Longtime Clinton aide Philippe Reines is playing Trump in mock debates, according to a person familiar with the preparations who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and insisted on anonymity. Spicer pointed out that “Clinton is a career politician who has spent years sharpening her debate reflexes and beefing up on public policy”. Atkeson also said Clinton, who recently suffered a bout of pneumonia and has battled persistent questions about her health, needs to appear robust.
“I will debate anyone who wants to debate”, McMullin said.
Mr Cruz said in Austin, Texas: “Any path we took, if I supported Donald, if I didn’t support Donald, the criticism was going to be there”. But this will be her first presidential debate against a candidate from an opposing party, which Democrats say will give her far more latitude in drawing a contrast and defending herself.
