“The Wolves issued a news release on Garnett”™s retirement after the video was posted.

“I’m proud of our association with Kevin, just seeing him grow over the years”, Wolves owner Glen Taylor told The Associated Press. I wish him continued success in the next chapter of his life.

The Timberwolves hired Tom Thibodeau as coach and president in the offseason as well as a new general manager in Scott Layden.

The Timberwolves franchise has been around for 28 seasons – 14 with Garnett on the team, 14 without him.

Today’s retirement announcement caps off a career that will undoubtedly be rewarded with a first-ballot Hall of Fame induction that will likely include Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan in 2020.

A high school player who soared straight to the National Basketball Association in 1995, Garnett quickly became the face of the franchise. Garnett was also one of the most driven, single-minded, and frankly a little insane competitors the National Basketball Association has ever seen, a quality that was surely respected by the equally ruthless Bryant. The victory total then dropped to 33 and 32. There were plenty of public reasons offered for the trade, but many believe Marbury did not want to share the spotlight with Garnett, and was perhaps jealous of the contract Garnett received. And together, Garnett, Allen, and Pierce won a title for the Celtics. “But when that changes, it”™s pretty easy to move on.”.

Garnett brought a ferocity most players can only ever muster for the occasional poster dunk to every aspect of his game. As ESPN’s J.A. Adande pointed out, it was Garnett’s decision to leave the Timberwolves due to their inability to succeed in the playoffs, a factor that prompted him to sign with the Boston Celtics via a massive trade. “That is the goal”.

I’ve always admired your passion for the game. “That has been my goal since I became a Wolf.”. I never would’ve thought that people would love me like this. “This is full-circle right here.”. He was an All-Star and the NBA’s defensive player of the year in 2004.

Garnett had contemplated returning for a 22nd season, which no player has ever done.

That said, Garnett provided many memorable moments as a member of the Nets, including one in which he gave Joe Johnson the nickname “Joe Jesus”.
