You Can Now Use Snapchat Through These Sunglasses

Spectacles are similar to Google’s Glass, in that both have a camera, but Snap’s offering can do just two things: take short videos and keep the sun out of your eyes.

It will record up to 10 seconds of video at a time in a new circular format, which can be played full screen on any device and “captures the human perspective with a 115 degree field of view”. The $18 billion-dollar startup also announced it will change its name to “Snap”, suggesting that chatting will no longer be the main focus of the business.

Spectacles will connect to your phone via a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection, according to the company blog.

The sunglasses, dubbed Spectacles, will be sold via limited distribution for about $130, said Spiegel, who described the device as a toy.

Business Insider says the glasses record up to 10 seconds of footage at a time – so the same as Snapchat now does. Tap again and you can record up to 30 seconds of video. On social media, spectacles’ commercial go viral which shows its dashing look and some memorable moments that you wish.

Evan Spiegel, the chief executive officer and co-founder of Snap, has been testing a prototype of the glasses since at least early 2015.

The company says Spectacles are “capable of taking a day’s worth of Snaps on a single charge”. “It’s one thing to see images of an experience you had, but it’s another thing to have an experience of the experience”.

Spectacles, expected to be in limited supply when they hit the market, would put pressure on GoPro, whose mini-cameras are created to let people capture video of endeavours from personal perspectives. The new product – Spectacles – will be kind of like Google Glass, but for saving “Memories”.

“Changing our name also has another benefit: when you search for our products it will be easier to find relevant product information rather than boring company information or financial analysis”. It now calls itself “a camera company”.
