The suspect in the Cascade Mall shooting in Washington that left five dead, has been identified as 20-year-old Arcan Cetin.

Police said they believed Cetin fled in a auto and identified his vehicle by matching information received from a tip and surveillance footage from a local business.

During a subsequent press meeting, the Washington State Patrol told of Cetin immigrating from Turkey and being a legal, permanent resident of the United States.

She said he could see police at the doors with assault rifles. “We both jumped out with our guns, and he just froze”. He was unarmed and was carrying a bag with a computer.

Lieutenant Mike Hawley, of the state’s Island County sheriff’s office, said that the suspect was “zombie-like” when he was captured.

A man suspected of shooting five people dead at a U.S. shopping centre has been arrested.

The shooting comes less than a week after a man stabbed nine people at a mall in the central Minnesota city of St. Cloud before being shot dead by an off-duty police officer.

While still early in the investigation, authorities have not announced a motive.

He posted a link to “Call of Duty”, a popular first-person shooter videogame in February, in an eerie foreshadowing of real world violence.

Burlington Mayor Steve Sexton said it’s now important for the community to come together and support one another. Mall surveillance video shows the suspect entering the mall without a weapon, but approximately 10 minutes later he walked into the Washington Macy’s armed with what appeared to be a hunting rifle, reports CNN.

On that same day, Molly tweeted that she was working at Macy’s and missed Oak Harbour, but she said nothing at all about Cetin.

The suspect will be in court on Monday morning.

As the small city absorbed the news, critical questions remained, including the shooter’s motive.

The Washington State Patrol says three females were killed and one male critically injured Friday night at the Cascade Mall in Burlington, north of Seattle.

Authorities say he did not resist arrest and described him acting “like a zombie”.

Mount Vernon Police Lt. Chris Cammock said Saturday that authorities recovered the weapon from the scene.

Four women and a man were killed in the shooting but none of the victims were identified. Burlington is the only major retail center within 30 miles (48 kilometers) in a region where agriculture is king.

Maria Elena Vasquez of Burlington attended a community gathering Saturday following the slayings.

A man wearing a jacket from the United States Department of Justice’s Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms bureau talks on a phone, Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at the Cascade Mall in Burlington, Wash. According to Herald Net Washington, a friend told the family she had died and Martin had not returned home.

“I just moved them into the (T-Mobile) store”, Patino said.

“She was a strong girl, she told me a lot about her life and I trusted her with everything”, the unnamed individual told the station.
