Cetin has not been formally charged yet.
Witnesses of the arrest corroborated that the arrest was so calm it was hard to believe this was the man suspected of killing five people in cold blood a day earlier.
Authorities announced earlier that the suspect had been apprehended Saturday evening. He was taken into custody in Oak Harbor.
The shooter can be seen on surveillance video walking in to the mall Friday night unarmed about 10 minutes before the shooting, KOMO.com reported.
3. Cetin is a longtime Oak Harbor resident..
She said he could see police at the doors with assault rifles and said they were no longer guarding the doors as of 9:30 p.m.
The victims’ identities have not been released. Police said the ages of the victims ranged from a teenager to a senior citizen. Police said Cetin was born in Turkey, but described his status as that of a “legal, permanent resident” in the United States. Also that month, Cetin was told not to possess firearms.
A weapon was recovered at the scene of the violence, Cascade Mall in Burlington, a town of about 8,000 people about 110km north of Seattle.
“It’s too scary. It’s too close to home”, said Maria Elena Vasquez, who attended a gathering in a city park Saturday with her husband and two young children.
Nineteen-year-old Joanne Burkholder was watching the movie “The Magnificent Seven” in a theater at the Cascade Mall on Friday night when police and security came in and told them they needed to evacuate. Dozens of panicked moviegoers gathered in the hallway, and Burkholder heard screaming as the officers escorted them to safety in a parking lot.
Sexton said he was aching for the moment when authorities “bring this son of a b– to justice”.
Tari Caswell said she was in a women’s dressing room at Macy’s when she heard “what sounded like four balloons popping, and I thought that was unusual because I hadn’t seen any balloons”, the newspaper reported.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press says the The Seattle Times is reporting that one of the victims in the shooting is 16-year-old Sarai Lara. Her sister, Evangelina Lara, told the Seattle Times the teenager had been pronounced dead by police at 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
Ms Lara said she was shopping at mall with Sarai and her younger sister, but they split up, with Sarai going to Macy’s looking for pants. The statement says the 64-year-old Galde “was an amazingly kind and caring individual” who helped thousands of probationers find a better way to live.
